Terms of Use
The ground rules for using Lagos Markets — for buyers, store owners, agents and everyone in between.
Last updated October 02, 2026
Welcome, and thank you for using Lagos Markets
By continuing to use Lagos Markets, whether you are browsing, creating an account, listing a store or working with us as an agent, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the platform.
These terms are written to be readable. They still form a binding agreement between you and Lagos Markets.
Who can use Lagos Markets
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement to create an account, list a store or work as an agent. Browsing and searching do not require an account.
If you use Lagos Markets on behalf of a business, you confirm that you are authorised to bind that business to these terms.
What Lagos Markets is
Lagos Markets is a discovery platform. We help buyers find products, stores and services in physical Lagos markets before they go, and we help sellers present accurate, up-to-date information online.
We are not a party to any transaction between buyers, stores and agents. When you contact a store, negotiate, pay or take delivery, that agreement is between you and the other party. We don't sell products ourselves, and we don't process payments for marketplace purchases. The paid features described in the “Fees and payments” section are separate from marketplace transactions.
Your account
If you create an account, a few simple rules apply:
- Give accurate information and keep your sign-in details safe.
- You're responsible for activity that happens through your account.
- Don't create accounts for others or misrepresent who you are, which matters especially for store owners, agents and verification applicants.
- If you list a store you don't personally own, such as a tenant or authorised operator, you confirm that you have the owner's permission to list and verify that shop.
Listing content and accuracy
Store owners are responsible for the accuracy of what they publish: product names, prices, stock status, photos, opening hours and shop locations. Listings should be honest, current and lawful. When something sells out or a price changes, update it.
Listings must not offer counterfeit, stolen or unlawful goods, and goods must be described honestly, including whether they are new, UK used, Nigerian used or refurbished.
We may adjust, hide or remove listings that are inaccurate, misleading, unlawful or that break these terms. Repeated problems can lead to a store being delisted.
Verification
The Physically Verified badge means a shop was confirmed in person by our team at the time of verification. It reflects that the shop exists where it says it does, but it is not a guarantee of product quality, pricing or any ongoing endorsement.
Verification is not permanent. We re-check stores roughly every 90 days, and sooner if a store changes location or operator or if we receive complaints. If a re-check is due but not yet completed, a store's badge may show as Pending Re-verification before it lapses to Unverified. A failed re-check removes the badge immediately.
Verified agent profiles work differently. An agent's identity is checked by our team, but agents are not physically verified at a shop, and the badge does not guarantee the quality of any deal an agent arranges.
Verification can be withdrawn if a store or agent no longer meets our requirements.
Fees and payments
Searching, browsing, creating a store profile and listing products manually are free. Some optional or operational services carry fees, and we will show you the fee before you commit to it. We never charge buyers to search or to use the platform.
- Verification: your store's first verification is free if it falls within our early free cohort. Otherwise the fee is currently ₦2,000 per verification. The fee is due only after your verification is approved, and nothing is charged if it is rejected.
- Re-verification: the free cohort covers a store's first verification only. Later re-verifications are charged at the then-current verification fee, whether or not the store was originally verified for free.
- Priority Visibility subscription: a monthly plan, currently ₦1,600 per month, that gives a store higher placement in search and category results and eligibility for featured slots. You can cancel at any time, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, after which the store returns to standard ranking without losing anything it had for free.
- Featured placements: where we offer paid placements, they are always labelled Sponsored and kept separate from organic search results.
Refunds and fee changes
Fees are non-refundable once the service has been delivered, except where we charged you in error or failed to deliver what you paid for, in which case contact support@lagosmarkets.app and we will put it right.
We may change our fees and plans over time. We'll give existing subscribers advance notice of any price change, and the change applies from your next billing period.
Market agents
Market Agents are independent people who help buyers source products. They are not employees, partners or representatives of Lagos Markets, and we are not responsible for what they say or do, although we may remove agents who break these terms.
Agents may add their own margin to a store's price. Buyers see only the final price of an offer, not the store's price or the agent's margin, and by using the platform you accept this arrangement.
- Agents must quote honestly, and must not misrepresent a product, its condition, its availability or its price.
- A buyer's contact details are shared with an agent, and later with a store, only to complete that specific request. Don't use them for anything else, including marketing or passing them on.
- Agents must not use the platform to cut stores or buyers out of a deal they were introduced to in a way that breaks any agreement they have with those parties.
- Agents are responsible for their own taxes and for any arrangements with the stores they work with.
Verification agents
Verification Agents are platform-authorised field staff who visit stores and capture evidence. They are a different role from Market Agents, and each role has its own sign-up and its own additional terms, which you must accept before starting.
Verification Agent payouts depend on our review of the submitted report, not on the submission itself. A reduced visit fee applies if a verification is rejected after a completed visit. Full payout details are set out in the Verification Agent terms.
Verification Agents must follow the checklist honestly, capture required evidence live where we require it, and must never accept payments or favours in exchange for a favourable report.
Reviews
Reviews help other buyers, so they must reflect a real experience. Only buyers with an eligible interaction can leave a review, and each review should be honest, relevant and respectful.
Don't post fake reviews, reviews in exchange for payment or gifts, or reviews of your own or a competitor's store. We may remove or hide reviews that are fake, abusive or off-topic, and we may act against accounts that manipulate ratings.
Community conduct
To keep Lagos Markets trustworthy for everyone, don't:
- Misrepresent products, prices or availability, sell counterfeit goods, or engage in fraud.
- Harass, threaten or spam other users, or scrape the platform to copy its content or data.
- Use the platform to distribute malware or to attempt to gain unauthorised access to other accounts or our systems.
- Circumvent verification, reviews or moderation processes.
- Bribe, pressure or offer favours to a Verification Agent or admin, or submit forged, altered or borrowed documents or photos as verification evidence.
Staying safe and reporting problems
Lagos Markets helps you find sellers, but the final transaction happens in person or between you and the other party. Inspect goods carefully before you pay, check serial numbers and condition where relevant, and be cautious about unusually low prices.
When meeting an agent or trader, choose a public place, tell someone where you're going, and only share your live location with a person once you have decided to proceed with them. Sharing your location is always optional.
If you see a counterfeit item, a misleading listing, a fraudulent seller or an unsafe situation, report it to support@lagosmarkets.app so we can investigate. In an emergency, contact the Nigerian emergency services first.
Privacy and your data
We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it and what rights you have, and it forms part of these terms.
Depending on how you use the platform, this can include contact details, identity documents, photos and approximate or shared location. Identity documents and verification evidence are used for verification and fraud prevention and are not shown publicly.
Where we offer features such as photo-to-listing, images you upload may be processed by third-party AI providers to suggest listing details. Those providers' own terms may allow them to use submitted content to improve their services, so don't upload images you don't want processed this way.
Your content
You keep ownership of the content you upload, including listings, photos, descriptions and reviews. You give Lagos Markets a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to host, store, display, adapt for formatting, and promote that content on the platform and in connected services, including market guides, category and price-comparison pages, search results and shareable quote cards.
If you delete your content or your account, we'll stop displaying it publicly within a reasonable time. We may keep copies where we need them for legal, security, fraud-prevention or record-keeping purposes, and cached copies may take a short while to disappear.
You confirm you have the right to share anything you upload, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
Our content and property
The Lagos Markets name, design, code and the market data we compile are our property or licensed to us. You may use them through the platform as intended; please don't copy or reuse them for other products without permission.
Availability and changes
Lagos Markets is provided “as is”. We work hard to keep it available and accurate, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service or that every listing is complete and current at every moment.
We may add, change or remove features as the platform evolves. If a change is significant, we'll do our best to let account holders know in advance.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Nigerian law, Lagos Markets isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses arising from transactions between buyers, stores and agents, including disputes over quality, price, delivery or payment.
Where we are found liable to you despite these terms, our total liability is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and [₦ amount to be confirmed].
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, and nothing here removes any rights you have as a consumer under Nigerian law.
Suspension and termination
You can close your account at any time by contacting support@lagosmarkets.app. Closing your account doesn't cancel fees already due, and a subscription ends at the end of its current billing period.
We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms, mislead buyers or put the community at risk. If we take action on your account, you can contact support@lagosmarkets.app to understand why.
Sections that by their nature should continue after an account ends, including those on your content licence, fees owed, liability, and governing law, will continue to apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes will be handled in the courts of Lagos State, unless applicable law says otherwise.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform grows. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
If we make a material change, we'll notify account holders by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Lagos Markets after the change takes effect, you accept the updated terms, and if you don't agree with them you can close your account.
